The Performing and Visual Arts teacher is responsible to the ES Head of Arts for implementing the performing and visual arts curriculum, assessment and reporting processes.

 

The Performing and Visual Arts teacher will work collaboratively with other department members and support teachers as needed to develop common unit plans, effective lesson plans and assessment strategies congruent with WABs assessment guidelines and curriculum.  The Performing and Visual Arts teacher will, whenever appropriate, employ an inquiry-based approach and differentiate lessons to support the learning styles of individual students.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Teachers at WAB:

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

The successful applicant is expected to have the following skills, abilities, knowledge, experience and qualifications:

 

1. Personal Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to connect with students, staff and parents, establishing effective collaborative working relationships with each group.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, while considering EAL community members
  • Skills in working with a range of students of different abilities and backgrounds
  • Skills in teaching inquiry
  • Ability to integrate appropriate technologies into the curriculum

2. Knowledge and application of:

  • Contemporary teaching and learning theories and practice in performing arts education, including differentiation and inquiry
  • Collaborative planning techniques

3. At least five years of experience:

  • As a full-time Performing and Visual Arts teacher in a classroom setting
  • Working with a diverse range of students including those with EAL, learning support and enrichment needs preferred
  • Teaching IB PYP preferred

4. Qualifications

  • Completed Introductory IB PYP workshop preferred
  • Teaching qualification
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Professional performing experience an asset
